Graduate Programs in Education
M.Ed. Program
The Master of Education degree in Elementary and Special Education is designed to serve individuals who hold valid a teaching license in the licensure area and wish to pursue a master's degree. Successful completion of the Master of Education degree qualifies the individual for the master's license in the state of North Carolina. The Master of Education in Special Education offers concentrations in two areas: Adapted Curriculum and General Curriculum.
The college also offers Licensure Plus M.Ed. Programs. Licensure Plus is a two-step program. The first step of the Licensure Plus M.Ed. Program leads to initial licensure. The second step of the Licensure Plus M.Ed. Program leads to the M.Ed. and the master's license.
Candidates may pursue initial licensure, Step One, in Elementary Education by completing coursework at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Upon completion of intial licensure for Elementary Education (Step One), candidates may then apply to continue in the second step or the Plus portion of the program. Step Two consists of an additional 22-24 hours of graduate level work, which allows candidates to complete the M.Ed. in Elementary Education.
Candidates may pursue initial licensure, Step One, in either Special Education Adapted Curriculum or General Curriculum by completing coursework at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Upon completion of initial licensure for the Adapted or General Curriculum license in special education (Step One), candidates may then apply to continue in the second step, or Plus portion of the program. Step Two consists of an additional 28-30 hours of graduate level work, which allows candidates to complete the M.Ed. in either Adapted Curriculum or General Curriculum.
